Fall and Halloween in Seguin: A Guide to October Outings
The air in Seguin turns crisp, and the town starts to glow with autumn colors. October is a busy month here, with plenty of ways to spend a weekend without leaving the county. Whether you are looking for a quiet afternoon or a lively evening, here is what is happening around town.
Pumpkin Patches
For a classic fall outing, the First Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch at 710 N. Austin St. runs from October 3 through 31. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 7 p.m. The church notes that its pumpkins are grown on the Navajo reservation in New Mexico, and the patch has been a local tradition since 1995. On Sunday evenings in October, a short worship service with live music, Praise in the Pumpkin Patch, runs from 6:30 to 7 p.m.
Braune Farms Pumpkin Patch at 1300 Link Rd. offers a different experience on weekends October 10–11, 17–18, and 24–25, from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per person for ages 2 and up, which includes a hayride. Visitors can enjoy farm animals, face painting, pumpkin putt-putt, and a hay bale climb. Leashed pets are welcome, but the patch is closed if it rains. Cash is preferred, and closed-toe shoes are recommended.
Around Town
Downtown Seguin comes alive with the Scarecrow and Skeleton Contest, with displays filling shop windows through October 31. It is free to walk and see. On Saturday, October 17, the Seguin Fall Festival takes place at Central Park from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., featuring a kids zone and a pet costume contest. For adults, the Calaveras Cantina Crawl is scheduled for Friday, October 16, from 7 to 11 p.m. in downtown. Dia de Muertos costumes are encouraged, and the event is free.
Spooky Stages
The Texas Theatre at 425 N. Austin St. hosts Wait Until Dark, a thriller, on Fridays through Sundays from October 23 to November 1. TLU’s Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors opens October 30 at the Texas Lutheran University Studio Theatre. On Sunday, October 25, the Saints Alive Cemetery Tour runs at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery, 201 E. Klein St. Local actors portray historic Seguin figures. Tickets are $20, and a free shuttle departs from the Seguin Coliseum lot.
Library and Halloween Week
The Seguin Public Library at 313 W. Nolte St. hosts free events. The Teen Murder Mystery Party is on Friday, October 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.; registration and a permission slip are required. An Adult Social Hour making DIY potion bottles is on Friday, October 30, at 1 p.m., with costumes encouraged.
Halloween week kicks off with Rock the Fright, the Seguin Rotary Halloween bash with live music and a costume contest, on Thursday, October 29, starting at 5 p.m. at The Seguin Schoolyard, 225 N. Saunders St. Trunk or Treat is on Saturday, October 31, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Beck and Beck, 603 E.
